Privacy Policy
The short version
- Your scans and created codes stay in the app’s local history, on your device. We never upload, sell, or share them.
- The camera is used only to find codes while the scanner is open. Frames are processed on your device and are never recorded or sent anywhere.
- No account, no analytics, no third-party tracking. If that ever changes, we’ll update this policy and tell you in the app first.
What ExaQR stores, and where
The codes you scan and create are saved only in this app’s local history, stored on your device. ExaQR also remembers a few small preferences in the same on-device storage — your theme (light, dark, or system) and your language.
We don’t run servers that receive any of this. Nothing you scan or create is uploaded, sold, or shared. It stays on your device until you remove it:
- Clear your history and those codes are gone for good.
- Delete the app and everything ExaQR has stored goes with it.
How the camera and your photos are used
- Live scanning. When the scanner is open, ExaQR uses your camera only to detect QR codes. Frames are processed on your device in the moment — they are never recorded, saved, or transmitted.
- Scan from a photo. If you choose to read a code from an image, ExaQR looks at that one photo you pick. The image stays on your device; it isn’t uploaded.
- Microphone. The camera library ExaQR is built on lists a microphone permission on Android, but ExaQR never records or uses audio.
What we don’t do
- No account or sign-up. You can use everything without giving us any personal details.
- No analytics, no third-party tracking. ExaQR doesn’t include advertising or tracking SDKs.
- No profiles. Because nothing leaves your device, there’s nothing for us to build a profile from.
Permissions ExaQR asks for, and why
Each permission is only used at the moment you take the matching action — never in the background.
- Camera
- To scan QR codes live while the scanner is open.
- Photos
- To read a QR code from an image you choose. Images stay on your device.
Made for everyone
ExaQR doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, so it doesn’t knowingly collect anything from children. It’s a simple, self-contained utility that’s safe for a general audience.
If this policy changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. ExaQR v1.0 uses no analytics and no third-party tracking — and if that ever changes, we’ll update this page and tell you in the app before it takes effect. That’s a promise we intend to keep, not fine print.
